Have you ever given it a thought that your habits are the reason why you lack the motivation and drive to achieve? Strange as it may seem, but its true. Habits are something we develop unintentionally but we can easily get out of if we make a conscious train our minds. So here are some of the reasons why you could probably lacking motivation. Identify them and weed them out so you can chase those dreams!

Believe you can and you’re halfway there
— Theodore Roosevelt
  1. Self-belief is extremely important because this could be a major reason for you to lose motivation and give up without even trying. An inner conviction and zeal is important to fuel your desire to do anything. It is not necessary for you to get external validation all the time. Sometimes all you need is to know that you are good at something and make it happen. Sometimes the only thing that is between success and you is YOU! So start believing in your ability to make things happen and you will be surprised at what you are capable of.

  2. Perfection is your pet peeve. I know there are a lot of you out there who want your work to be perfect. While perfection is good to an extent, expecting perfection at the first shot might sometimes be a tall order to fulfill. It could be demotivating if you are striving for perfection and you are unable to achieve your own standards. Instead, start off at perfecting smaller goals, if you are writing maybe an essay, create 2-3 rough drafts and then perfect it after analyzing the flaws and drawbacks. In this way you would also be more pleased with your final result since you would have not only put in a lot of effort but because that effort will bear fruit.

  3. Comparing yourself to others. This by far I feel is one of the worst ways to demotivate yourself, and I saw this with personal experience. While analyzing others’ success you often feel that they are in a much better position than you are, or they had it much easier than you. But, never forget someone else’s struggle is not yours and you can never be someone else’s. Your journey is what makes you and comparing yourself with a contemporary would always make you question your decisions. This relays us back to the point of self-belief. Believe in yourself and make it happen!

  4. You don’t have a plan of action (POA). Trying to ramble about without a POA is going to make it a frustrating ordeal and most certainly would make you lose your motivation. Start out small…. plan your path to the final outcome. If you try to get too much done at a go is also going to make it very overwhelming for you and intimidate you. Also, not having a plan would cause you to waste your time while you are mid-way through a particular project wondering what to do next, and this would actually impact the quality of your final outcome.

  5. You don’t rest enough. While drive and passion are definitely needed to fuel your desire to achieve something great, your body and mind need rest. Just like a phone battery or car battery needs charging, so does your brain. And if you haven’t already read our blog on ‘Why sleep is your superpower?’, I suggest you go do it right now!

So I really do hope you manage to identify what are your toxic habits that are killing your motivation and eliminate them as soon as possible after reading this blog.
